Guwahati: Several Congress Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the state are in queue to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claimed Assam BJP Chief Bhabesh Kalita on Sunday.
''More will join us in the coming days as several Congress MLAs are in queue,'' he added.
Meanwhile, while countering BJP over the statement made by Kalita, Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah has the saffron party to focus on development of Assam, instead of luring and poaching MLAs of other parties.
Alongwith, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Bhabesh Kalita virtually attended the BJP national executive meeting in New Delhi.
Earlier, two MLAs of Congress party -- Rupjyoti Kurmi and Sushanta Borgohain had quit the party and joined the BJP. Later, the duo won the by-elections from their respective constituencies.
In the recent by-polls, the BJP and its allies swept all the nine Assembly seats in the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram, which went to the polls on October 30.
The Congress, which had governed these states for many decades, scored a zero.
